Svendsen's Thursday Night Series #1 at Treasure Island Sailing CenterApril 5
Story
The 2012 season got off to a great start, with 15 boats on the line on a windy Thursday afternoon. John Super ran three quick windward-leewards for us.

Race 1 saw puffs to around 18 knots, with Al Sargent and new crew Rachel Maxson first at the weather mark, but lost downwind to Ken Turnbull/Kelly Gregory, and Dave/Jessica, who finished first and second, respectively.

Race 2 saw a bit less wind. Jack and Gordon Porter passed Al and Rachel to take the bullet, with Al/Rachel taking second and Ken/Kelly hanging tough for third.

Race 3 saw the wind drop to around 10 knots. Ken did a great job stuffing Al at the start, and went on to take second in that race, and first for the evening. 1005 (who didn't register on the website, ahem...) took first, with Ben and Anna taking third.

A hearty welcome and honorable mention goes to Mike & Eleanor, who had their first Vanguard 15 regatta (I'm pretty sure), having just recently purchased Garth Copenhaver's old steed, Sleeping Beauty, #1177.

Social chairs were Chad and Natasha, I'm pretty sure, and made some wicked good chili. Thanks!

Friendly reminders that we mentioned:

Sign up on the social chair Google doc: http://j.mp/v15social2012 . You will be harassed mercilessly until you do.

Sign up for each race day so social chairs bring enough food and drink. You don't want to have to be the one that has to drink one of last year's Tecates since all other beverages ran out. Our next race: http://vanguard15.org/schedule/647

Ski/Sail is coming up fast, April 14 and 15. All the rain down here means snow up there! Avery Patton and Amy Guarnieri are the organizers. Sign up: http://vanguard15.org/schedule/670

Elon Musk was star guest this year at an annual conference organized by Italian PM Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party. kraken24.at He arrived against the backdrop of an ice-skating rink and an ancient castle in Rome with one of his 11 children to tout the value of procreation. Italy has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, and Musk urged the crowd to “make more Italians to save Italy’s culture,” a particular focus of the Meloni government. https://kraken5af44k24fwzohe6fvqfgxfsee4lgydb3ayzkfhlzqhuwlo33ad.... kraken17 Meloni has been a strong opponent of surrogacy, which is criminalized in Italy, but there was no mention of Musk’s own recent children born of surrogacy. The owner of X (formerly called Twitter) was slightly rumpled with what could easily be argued the least stylish shoes in the mostly Italian crowd since Donald Trump’s often unkempt former top adviser Steve Bannon appeared at the conference in 2018. Meloni sat in the front row taking photos of Musk, who she personally invited. Meloni founded the Atreju conference in 1998, named after a character in the 1984 film “The NeverEnding Story.”
