Svendsen's Thursday Night Series #2 at Treasure Island Sailing CenterApril 12

Story
What an evening! It started out as a mild southerly, then built into very breezy, puffy conditions that capsized about a third of the fleet. Dan and Claire won the one race we had, and showed good sense by sailing to the "lee shore" dock in windy conditions with their main down and jib up. Good call.

Thankfully everyone made it back without injury or damage to property, aside from mud stains on the main. (Consider it a badge of honor!) Luckily the rain and lightning didn't start until after we were off the water, and dinner was indoors at the Treasure Island Bar & Grill.

Note to future racers: racing in a windy southerly at TISC is a bad idea, and should be avoided. The dock is a lee shore, completely unprotected, and it's easy for boats to crash into the dock. Anyone that capsizes gets pushed into a lee shore, or worse, a pier. It takes a long time for boats to get out of the water, which is especially bad if there's lightning. Better to head to the bar and swap stories about better days.

(Note on scoring: Al and Adam were given redress for assisting the boat that capsized by the pier.)
