Svendsen's Thursday Night #7 at Treasure Island Sailing Center | May 15 |
Story |
what a night... 80 degrees, nice puffy and super shifty and medium breeze, solid courses, and good competition.
Nice to have Mr Clean himself join us for the season- even if it is without his truely better half (5months pregnant- so all cylinders firing these days). Crazy night huh??? course set up a little more southerly than normal with marks near the port side of the course. Nice deep starting line gave us a longer first beat than normal which worked out very well. There was a predominant shift line set up from the cove that played thru all night. Puff to strong starboard, wacked down by a breif puff over the hill to the port, then back again. It seems to work ot the side- you had to dig in to avoid getting smacked around in the middle. There were no laylines, there was no place safe from a lull or crazy shift. You could be 20 feet from someone on opposite tacks, hiking and both on the same heading. First 2 races, winning the port and hanging out seemed to work. 3 and 4th the starboard played more on the top than bottom but was winning up and downwind. 5th race- port played well but we were the only ones out there! Unfortunately the one time I didn't listen to Kristen, we tried going to the north on the way down and got s-m-o-k-e-d.... Fun racing. Congrat's to Adam and Amy- nice work. Session, Highlights: - seriously, 85 when we were rigging up- sailed shorts and t-shirt all night - some loud collisions in the back of the fleet... - some on-course drinkin... - a few lasers put it in the drink - 20 boats, 12 lasers - nice social- thanks Wes for being brave and going solo! Social Schedule now posted on home page. Please review and contact Sessions to claim a night- everyone! (note on scoring: bit of work in progress. Spiegel and others corrected so email me if you think they are wrong) Early Season Update: Looks like Ken and Rebecca are off to another top place start to the season- with 1174 (adam and maddy) getting close on participation. It's early and there will be a normalizing once we start to reach 12-15 nights so every point counts. Spiegel's racing Varsity this year and not sure who is in the lead for JV but it looks close. Plenty of nights left to be competitive so get on it! (anyone notice that bonus1 is beating crosby.. :)- now that's accurate scoring!) - 37 V15's have raced so far! - l8 |
