This was an awesome weekend to be out on the water! Warm, no wetsuit needed, and lots of happy sailors enjoying the sun. After 4 races with wind from half the compass and shifting currents, racing buoys at times during one eventually abandoned race, the race committee pulled up and headed for the tip of the island... Now that is BAY CHAMPS! Some solid breeze for the final Saturday race, and a good range of breeze for Sunday's races made it a great event. Big thanks to the race committee for hanging in there and pulling off some nice moves!
The weekend was led by fleet newcomer Dave Siegal sailing with Katie Shuman, and they were followed by newcomers Archie Massey & Nadia Strasser. Dave & Katie pretty much dominated, which was an amazing feat in variable conditions. Archie & Nadia showed light air prowess, with just a couple races precluding their hunt for the leaders. Similar story for Ken & Rebecca with a couple throwouts too many, otherwise consistent as it gets. After that, just add an additional what-if as you go down the list :) Some nice West Marine bags for the top-three pairs!
The Summer Sailstice party was another great one with Mount Gay & Lagunitas flowing, the Caribbean Rhythm and Blues, and Chicken Hooray roasting through the evening. It was of course a long day, and it is rare and inspiring when that kind of time does not fly. Huge thanks to the Treasure Island Sailing Center staff and volunteers for doing it right!!! |
