NOTICE OF RACE
1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the 1997-2000
Racing Rule of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US SAILING, and the Team
Racing Rules (Appendix D), except as any of these are altered by the
Sailing instructions, and by the Sailing Instructions.
2. BOATS
2.1 Either Vanguard 15, 420 or CFJ dinghies will be
provided. Standing rigging shall not be adjusted, except by direction of the
organizing authority.
3. TEAMS
3.1 Each competing team shall consist of three skippers and three crews
4. ADVERTISING
4.1 The regatta is classified as a Category A Event in accordance with rule
79, Advertising and Event Categories, and Appendix G3.
5. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
5.1 Up to eight teams will be invited
5.2 The completed entry forms and one check for the entry fee ($150) payable to
NHYC must filed with the Newport Harbor Yacht Club before the competitor’s
meeting.
6. FEES
6.1 An entry fee of $150 will apply to each team. The entry fee will include
continental breakfast, box lunches and Saturday night dinner for 6 team members.
A fee of $25 will apply to alternates and coaches. A $250 refundable damage deposit will be required upon registration at NHYC.

8. SAILING
INSTRUCTIONS
8.1 Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration at NHYC.
9. FORMAT
9.1 Depending on the number of registered teams and subject to wind and
weather conditions, the format may be a single or multiple round robin of all
teams, or teams may be split into two groups for a preliminary round robin,
followed by a championship series or round robin.
10. RACING AREA AND COURSE
10.1 A triangle-windward course will be set in the
turning basin off NHYC.
11. SCORING
11.1 Scoring will be in accordance with Appendix D, except as modified by
the Sailing Instructions.
12. MINIMUM COMBINED CREW WEIGHT, WET CLOTHING, AND WEIGHT JACKETS
12.1 The combined weight of the entire six-person team shall not be less
than 840 lbs. The team shall carry penalty weight if the combined weight fails
to meet the minimum. Penalty weight will be one of corrector weight for each
pound of weight less than 840 lbs. Penalty weights shall be distributed amongst
the boats of a team so the boats with combined weight of skipper and crew less
than 280 lbs. carry the penalty weights. The jury on request may approve a more
equitable distribution.
12.2 Providing penalty corrector weights shall
be the responsibility of the competitors. Only water in sealed plastic jugs, or
lead shots in protector bags shall be acceptable. Competitors will carry the
penalty corrector weights in every race, from yacht to yacht, and shall secure
them in the cockpit of each yacht.
12.3 Competitors shall be weighed by a jury
member on the scale provided to determine combined weight. Competitors will be
weighed in shorts and T-shirts.
13. PROTESTS
13.1 The regatta will be officiated by the competitors and protests will be
heard as soon as possible by a committee of competitors and certified judges.
14. DECISIONS OF THE JURY
14.1 Decisions of the protest committee shall be final
according to RRS D2.3(h). Appeals of all other protests are to be made to the US
SAILING Appeals Committee (see Prescription to RRS 70.1)
15. TROPHIES
15.1 The Jean Schenck Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the winning team.
Take home trophies will be awarded to the teams finishing first, second and
third.
