Svendsen's Thursday Night Series #22 at Treasure Island Sailing CenterAugust 30

Story
Very interesting race course, with the breeze a bit more left than usual, the weather mark more towards the south (left) side of Clipper Cove, and the left end of the start line heavily favored.

Rolf and Jordan got off to a good start for the evening, demonstrating a mastery of starting at the pin. He won the start in the first couple of races and was able to tack before he sailed into the wind shadow of Yerba Buena island.

Race 3 was Chad and Natasha's. Their winning move was to jibe at the offset mark and lead the way to the north side of the course, keeping them furthest away from the Yerba Buena wind shadow. This moved them from second at the weather mark to first at the gate, and on to the bullet.

Race 4 was Alex and Michelle's turn to bullet. (I can't recall what they did to nail it.)

Race 5 was kind of wacky. Al and backup crew Rebecca started in last at the unfavored committee boat end, tacked onto port underneath the fleet, then started surfing upwind on a large wake, riding the waves until a couple of boat lengths from shore, when a header conveniently arrived. This took them from last to first. They repeated Chad and Natasha's move from race 3, jibing at the pin and staying on the left (north) side downwind. They didn't even jibe on a couple of lifts so they would stay in better breeze. This helped them extend downwind and take the bullet.

Thanks to social chairs Alex and Michelle for the yummy pasta at TI Bar & Grill!

Just two more Thursday left...
