|Tuesday Night Round-the-Island Race at Treasure Island Sailing Center||June 12|
|The first annual Jeff Knowles Memorial Round-the-Island Race was a success with fifteen boats on the line - likely the most boats at a Fleet 53 event since Nationals 2015. Eleven boats completed the race despite strong adverse current and dying wind as the fleet came back under the Oakland span of the bridge to finish at the dock.
Steve and Emily finished first, passing the other boats at the top of the fleet with a cut in close to the south side of Yerba Buena. Dan and Neha took a costly penalty early in the race but were able to pass boats on each leg after that and finish second. Big thanks to Michael Rivlin for providing Panthera as a safety boat and to Jon Goldsmith for driving it, including running a start, keeping tabs on the fleet, and towing a few boats as needed.
See below for the NOR.
One Tuesday evening a few years back, Jeff Knowles was inspired by a late resurgence of breeze and a few beers in the cooler. Jeff and friends decided to use the opportunity to take the Jackaroe around the island, ultimately running out of breeze and daylight far from the cove. Despite needing to call for a tow on that first attempt, he often pushed for an around-the-island sail when favorable conditions arose.
In lieu of team racing let's celebrate Jeff with a race around TI & Yerba Buena this week. Please sign up if you're coming so we can have an accurate headcount.
* Start time will be the usual 6:30 pm
* We won't be rotating off the dock this week -- let me know if you need help tracking down a boat
* If you have a handheld VHF at home, please bring it
* Michael will be providing a chase boat for support (thank you!)
* Musical instruments strongly encouraged
